The majority of jobs in American businesses are filled by Americans. Still, there is a considerable seasonal labour shortage. A lot of businesses have started to rely on international workers to fill the entry-level seasonal job void. There are two alternatives for making up for the labour shortage: filing for H-2B visas or hiring J-1 student visa workers. Both types of visas help to serve a temporary need for unskilled entry-level employers. For the past few years, taking on H-2B visa workers has been important for local, seasonal, service industry businesses, such as hotels, restaurants, landscaping and construction outfits. A total of 33, 000 H-2B visa workers are admitted into the country every season. H-2B visa holders come to the States twice a year: from October 1 to March 31 (winter) and from April 1 to September 30 (summer season). Thus, the total number of H-2B visa issued amounts to 66,000. Due to the complicated H-2B visa application process and the existing limits on its usage, some employers are looking to the J-1 student visa program instead. There is no cap to how many J-1 visa workers can enter the United States. Employees can have a few jobs simultaneously and there is minimal paperwork to be done on the employers end. Students fill in all visa forms in their fatherland and are either sanctioned or denied there. Taking on J-1 student visa holders has appeared to be a great solution to a labour shortage. A lot of businesses consider J-1 student workers a viable option. Nevertheless, J-1 visas have the downside. J-1 student visa employees are only allowed to work four months a year - the period that corresponds to their summer vacation time. J-1 student visa holders work for about 90 days, starting from June, and then travel for 30 days - the so-called grace period - before leaving for their home counties. So, J-1 visa holders can lawfully reside in the USA for about four months. As for H-2B and J-1 visa holders, the Work & travel USA Program is an opportunity become a part of the American society as a paid employee.
