At present we hear a lot about antibiotic medicines. So what do antibiotics represent? Antibiotics are chemicals derived from germs and applied to kill bacteria or to slow their propagation. The first antibiotic medicine was produced in 1928 by Alexander Fleming, and its production marked a new stage in the history of medical science. These drugs are commonly used in the contemporary medicine. Doctors prescribe antibiotic drugs to the patients with infections evoked by bacteria. These medical products are not efficient against most viruses. That's why your doctor will not always prescribe antibiotic medications when you have an infection. There are different classifications of antibiotic medical products. The most general division is "bactericidal" medicines (their effect is based on killing bacteria) and "bacteriostatic" ones (they work by preventing the reproduction of bacteria). Furthermore, different antibiotic medications are different in use. Some of them are effective against one bacteria type (aka narrow-spectrum antibiotic medications, while others can handle a wide range of infections (these ones are famous as broad-spectrum antibiotic medicines). Keep in mind that antibiotic is a strong medical product and should be used only in compliance with the physician's prescription. Don't think that the drug that had an impact on your relative will be suitable for you. Most probably it won't bring positive results, it may even harm. You should remember that antibiotic medical products have side effects so do not even think about self-treatment. Your physician knows better what antibiotic medication and for what period of time you should take it. Despite priceless importance of antibiotic medical products in contemporary medical treatment methods you should note that they are medications and have definite side actions. Although antibiotics cause serious side actions quite rarely, yet such symptoms as vomiting and diarrhea will hardly please somebody. You should also tell your physician about all the allergies you have or used to have because some antibiotic medical products may evoke allergic reaction like itching, face swelling or skin rash. If you see that the use of the antibiotic drug provoked some unusual reaction, stop its use and consult your physician as soon as possible. Stay in good health and take into account that your health is in your hands.
