"East or west home is best", says the proverb. Since home is the very place where we are welcome and safe, where our soul rests peacefully, where we raise our children, share our joys and griefs and spend a good part of our life in. So, to make our home as comfortable as possible we should know more about building materials that we use to redecorate our houses or to build our dream homes. The most important building material is surely brick. A variety of brick types for building both structural and veneer walls is distinguished in the modern era. Fiber cement is believed to be a very stable and durable home building material. It contains cellulose fiber material, silica sand, Portland cement, water and additives. Fiber cement can be used in high-moisture areas. Siding sheets are made from wet fiber, cement and sand. Stucco is mostly used both for covering internal and external walls and adorning of the background of a wall. Despite of its obvious advantage related to its low maintenance, stucco has a great number of unfavourable characteristics. Firstly, it is neither stable nor durable. Hence, any cracks and breaks which appear on the exterior demand to be repaired. Second, it is sensitive to humidity and, therefore, unsuited for using in humid areas. Timbre is another general-purpose building material. It is generally used for siding of outer walls and protects a house from weather extremes. When choosing a building material for siding, it is advisable to take into consideration its appearance, maintenance it will require, insulation value, cost, sensitivity to climatic conditions of the area you live in and other factors. Aluminium g, vinyl, steel or cement are suitable for this purpose. Due to its durability and low maintenance, steel is selected by many building contractors in the modern era. It is fire-proof and can be recycled as well. A home cannot be completed without a roof. The best building materials are fiber-cement shingles, asphalt shingles and wood shakes. Fiber-cement shingles are much heavier if compared to asphalt shingles. However, the best roofing material is wood shakes due to their well-known insulation. There are FIVE major types of countertop materials for kitchen counters such as solid surfacing, natural stone, laminate, wood and ceramic tile. Laminate is believed to be the top option out of the five. Remember that selecting suitable building materials for your home ensures that your home will be comfortable and pleasant to live in and will require (which is important!) less maintenance.
